How do I exercise and eat right when I don’t have time?

You are probably asking yourself this right about now. We all are. With our lives becoming what they have, filled with work, life challenges, family, endless demands and distractions, it is a wonder we get anything done. And find time to sleep. The reality is that most people who start a diet and exercise program are not able to keep it going. And all good intentions can be completely wiped away in a blink of an eye.

So what does one do about this? Pray? Meditate? Visualize a better body? Join a gym?  Find a running buddy? Get up in the wee hours of the morning to squeek out some exercise time before rushing to work? Ugh!

Here is what we suggest. PICK ONE THING and stick with it for 30 days. You could start small with something like, “I will walk or stretch for 15 minutes everyday”.  Or maybe you will take on a bigger health challenge, like “I won’t eat any refined sugar for 30 days”. How about “I will sit quietly and meditate for 10 minutes a day”?

Rule of thumb- pick something that is familar and doable. Not something that is so far out of your range of usual habits that it will take a sledge hammer to get it into your day.

Understand that we humans are creatures of habit and generally don’t like change. So accept that and be kind to yourself. Setting goals to lose 50 pounds in 10 days borders on abuse! Start small, go with one goal and then add to it once you have that down into your routine.

For the first habit you want to incorporate, you must write it down and put it somewhere you will see it. Or you are likely to forget. Put it in your calender, on your desk, or maybe in your car.

To Your Good Health!

Stop It!

Stop It! Okay, so this is not a great way to start a conversation, telling you to “Stop It”. But I can’t help it. As a Physician I meet so many women who want to “get better”, “feel better”, and  “be able to do more”. But I have to say that does require some work. If...
